Dear Ayah, Happy Birthday!
What would I do if you’re still here and celebrate your birthday with me? Hmmm let see…
I’ll bake Super Devil Chocolate Cake for your birthday cake. We’ll eat it without thinking twice. Then you will smile in front of me, so I could see your chocolate-stained teeth and I will laugh. Like you always did when I was a little kid.
I’ll get you a new small turtledove as a present. One with black feathers and sparkling eyes, so you could named it Mata Setan. Then I’ll build a new bird cage on your backyard, like what you had before I was born. I’ll let you teach me how to take care a small turtledove, although it’ll scared me to death. It’s okay, I’ll learn it anyway.
I’ll ask you to take me to Bandung in the early morning. We will eat whatever we want to eat there. Cordon Bleu, pancakes, creampuffs, and ice creams. We will act like two meanie food critics, rating food based on its looks, taste and place.
Then, when all the stores is closed, we will go home to Jakarta. And you will drive safely while I will fall asleep besides you. But that’s okay because you love me.
My memories of you were consist of food we ate secretly at night, discovery channel we watched together, all the alien-existence-theories that we discussed, laughs that we shared and your super kind heart. So don’t you worry, although we can’t spend much time together due to thousand reasons, you’re still my best, my dearest Ayah.
I’m not always perfect, but I’ll try my best to be as kind as you. I’ll eat chocolate. I will laugh a lot. And I would make sure that my kids would be curious enough to find out about alien existence and conspiracy theories.
So don’t you worry, don’t you worry Ayah.
Just watch and pray for me.
